Ani Difranco
Angela Maria Ani DiFranco is an American-Canadian singer-songwriter. Her albums span over 20 years. DiFranco classifies her music as folk-rock and alternative. However, it has influences from punk, hip-hop and jazz. The widely regarded feminist icon Grammy recipient Ani DiFranco is the mother of the DIY movement and is among the pioneers to establish her own record label in 1990. DiFranco was born on 23rd September 1970, in Buffalo New York. Her parents were Elizabeth (Ross), from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Dante Americo DiFranco. Her mother is from Montreal as is her father, who is Italian descent. Ani's song, 32 Flavors was written by her, and performed by Ani. It is a track from her album from 1995 Not a Pretty Girl, that was her sixth studio album. The song is featured on the film soundtrack for the 1999 Canadian love story Better Than Chocolate. DiFranco apologised in 2013 when it was revealed that she planned to host a three day workshop at an Louisiana plantation for slaves. Even though she canceled the event several participants (including our paper) were not able to feel guilt. DiFranco issued another apology several days later. Although known by the name of Little Peoplesinger, she has collaborated with a variety of musicians and artists from Pete Seeger through Chuck D all the way to Prince. She is a resident of New Orleans. Ani DiFranco lives with Kristen Ford. She started writing songs at the age of 14. The songs she performed at coffee houses and bars throughout her teenage years. DiFranco was enrolled in Buffalo State College when she was sixteen aged. She graduated in the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts in the year she was 16. The baritone Ani plays is an individualized Alvarez guitar made after several meetings with Chrys who was an Alvarez representative of the artist at the time. The guitar is equipped with their System 600 preamp and has all solid woods--a top of mahogany, a cedar top and sides, and an ebony fretboard. She is at her home at home in New Orleans with her husband along with her two children and Lefty her long-legged dog that wanders in and out of view as we talk. DiFranco has admitted that, nearly three decades after her first appearance on the music scene, she has mixed feelings when looking at her past. Ani DiFranco achieved her musical famous status as a singer/songwriter and punk/folk at the age 25, both in the eyes of both fans and critics with Not A Pretty Girl. Dilate added even more success for DiFranco's music, in 1996. "Brandy" (You're a Fine Girl) by American Pop Rock band Looking Glass is from the album Looking Glass.
